for this region?
South Eastern Australia is not so much a wine region or state, but a large zone that encompasses the Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania states. Wines that are labeled from South East can be made from anywhere within these states. As one can imagine, this is a massive stretch of land with diverse growing conditions and ranges in quality.
While this is a title given to what tend to be very inexpensive table wines, some of the top producers have been known to make a South Eastern blend because it allows them to access fruit from anywhere in these regions and create a “Frankenstein-like,” multiple-state blend of their own.
The reds are made most from Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre and Cabernet. The whites from Chardonnay, Riesling, Vioginer, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
