South East Australia Wine

for this region?

South Eastern Australia is not so much a wine region or state, but a large zone that encompasses the Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Tasmania states. Wines that are labeled from South East can be made from anywhere within these states. As one can imagine, this is a massive stretch of land with diverse growing conditions and ranges in quality.

While this is a title given to what tend to be very inexpensive table wines, some of the top producers have been known to make a South Eastern blend because it allows them to access fruit from anywhere in these regions and create a “Frankenstein-like,” multiple-state blend of their own.

The reds are made most from Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre and Cabernet. The whites from Chardonnay, Riesling, Vioginer, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.

  • Little Roo Shiraz

    Snoothrank:

This is my go-to house wine. Great value for the money. I say it's a "friendly wine" because even non-wine drinkers or white wine drinkers seem to enjoy it. Read More

  • The Little Penguin Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

    Snoothrank:

This is a nice Cabernet, not excellent but nice. Deep berry smell with deep berry taste, sweet taste and with sufficient tannins that let you know they're working well. Good finish letting your palate know that this wine is well balanced. Great price. Needs further time to age to be great. Read More

  • Clos Otto Boxhead Cab/Shiraz 2011

    Snoothrank:

Fantastic syrah from South Australia. I really wouldn't expect much more from a wine at this price. The perfect amount of spice and pepper combined with undertones of earth and smoke and a modest amount of fruit. Medium finish and well balanced alcohol round out this very enjoyable wine. Will definitely repeat this purchase. Read More

  • Yabber & Sons Red Blend 2013

    Snoothrank:

Be sure to let this wine aerate, or it will be very acidic. Fruity, bright, berry notes. Not a very deep or rich flavor. An okay drinking wine, but not one that I would bring out for company. For its price, there are better wines available. Read More
