Murfatlar is a wine region on the Black Sea coast within Dobrogea in Romania. This region enjoys plentiful sunshine, some 300 days a year, with temperature moderators off the sea. This ensures a long growing season with excellent grape ripeness potential. The area produces dry wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Merlot, and the local Feteasca Negra for reds. Whites are produced from Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling Italico, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat Ottinel. But more famous from this region are its sweet wines from grapes given ample opportunity to hang on the vine late into harvest season and develop concentrated sugars. Botrytis (noble rot) dessert wines are also common.
