Wairarapa is a cool-climate wine region in the southernmost tip of North Island, New Zealand. Several rivers run through it, enriching its soils and providing excellent natural sources of irrigation. Long days of sun exposure with cool breezes contribute to a lengthy growing season and well-balanced, character-driven grapes.
Pinot Noir is the prominent grape in this maritime climate, especially so in the famous subregion of Martinborough. Other varietals cultivated in Wairarapa are Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.

  • Escarpment Pinot Noir 2006

Lightly roasted on the nose, with hints of coffee accenting the spicy red fruits that are topped with a touch of blood orange and gently stemmy floral notes. Bright and ripe in the mouth with soft tannins and an edge of evolution to the core of dark red fruits. This offers some nice complexity with an edgy earthiness on the mid-palate, followed ... • Craggy Range Winery Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Very sweetly fruited on the nose with hints of mint, vanilla, and mineral accenting the honeydew melon and peach fruit. Soft and surprisingly not fruity in the mouth, with firm mineral notes that are balanced by herbal tones and a touch of nectarine. This turns very perfumed on the finish and is an unusually elegant example of New Zealand Sauvig... Read More

  • Martinus Estate Pinot Noir Martinborough 2003

Strong complex nose with vanilla, parsley, pepper, nutmeg, cherry, plum, cedar and grass at different times over two hours. Dark fruit dominates the palate with tones of blackberry, black cherry, currant, and plum. Refreshing, smooth finish with oaky aftertaste. Dries nicely mid-trip. Read More
