  • Well, he's also making wine in Brooklyn, which is where I am now. So if the plan is to buy grapes somewhere in California, ship them down, and turn them into wine, it's a shorter distance than sending them to the east coast! And there is indeed a tradition of doing that - it's what was done during Prohibition and I still know some Italians in Be... Read More

  • Who needs CA? Just too hard to source over here, and waaaay too pricey.  ;-(    Yeah, I know, sounds like sour grapes ...  The kinds of offerings below, though, are every bit as interesting, and at very reasonable prices when I can chase the bottles down. Just using these as illustrative examples, for there are plenty more. Notes from Jancis Rob... Read More

  • Wines South Island Riesling 2009

Tasted in late 2012, this nearly dry Riesling is showing its age. Obvious oxidation is evident but some fruit hangs on. What fruit is left is somewhat Germanic (mineral notes, floral and good acid). My guess is that upon release, this was much nicer due to more fruit being able to carry the dryness. As it is now, my rating is 83. Read More
