for this region?
Nelson is a small, but prolific wine region located at the northern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, on the eastern shores of Tasman Bay. The wineries surround the town of the same name, located either in the plains southwest of town or in the hills of Upper Moutere. While it does see more rainfall than nearby Marlborough, there is still ample sun exposure for grape ripening in the warm growing season.
The clay soils lend characteristics to the wines produced primarily from Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Chardonnay. Dry red, white, rosé, sparkling and sweet styles are produced, including late harvest botrytis (noble rot) Riesling dessert wines. The wines from the more hilly areas, where there is the most sun exposure tend to be more concentrated, while the ones from lower lying areas are more floral and acidic.– Description from Amanda Schuster
