Gimblett Gravels Wine

www.gimblettgravels.com Established in January 2001, Gimblett Gravels is a brand owned by an association of New Zealand wineries and winegrowers in the Hawkes Bay region of the eastern North Island. Gimblett Gravels combines the French concept of terroir with modern day thinking to define, protect and market wine. In what is believed to be a first for winegrowers in the New World - wine growing countries outside Europe - Gimblett Gravels is basing the ultimate designation of their district according to a tightly specified soil type. The very special gravely soils and unique climatic conditions - together with the expertise of our winemakers - are key elements to producing high quality wines in the Gimblett Gravels district. The district, which includes the internationally acclaimed Gimblett Road, has been building a reputation for producing high quality red wines from 'Bordeaux' red varieties and Syrah. The Gimblett Gravels appellation, covering 800ha, is strictly determined by the gravely Read more »

  • Craggy Range "Te Kahu" Bordeaux Blend Gimblett Gravels 2009

    Snoothrank:

Boy is this good. Bourdeaux all the way. You'll want meat with this. Blackberries, plum, vanilla, earthy/herbal notes and oak round out the nose. Chewy tannins the rachet up not only the fruit, but the intensity of the mouthfeel in general. The taste is well defined with pleasing fruit with additional cinnamon and mocha to round out the palate. ... Read More

  • Craggy Range Te Kahu Gimblett Gravels Vineyard 2011

    Snoothrank:

This has an odd presence for a bordeaux blend. Actually it makes me think of some pre-1997 Iyalian wines. Although there is accompanying fruit, it's more earth, spice, red cedar, anise and snappy acidity and tannins. It's a little different but it is good. drink now - Paul 88 points Read More

  • Mills Reef Merlot Malbec Reserve 2012

    Snoothrank:

Raspberry, sweet cherry and strawberry notes coming through on the nose with a chalky note and a hint of spice. This has a sustained red fruit note that stays bright and light throughout the palate, imparting some perceived sweetness and a floral note that's pleasant and only turns tart with acidity towards the finish, where the cherry notes are... • Trinity Hill Chardonnay Hawkes Bay 2010

    Snoothrank:

This opens with a big creme brulée nose that is noticeably oaky, with notes of vanillin, wood spice, dried ginger and creamy pineapple. On entry this is rather refined and elegant with a sense of delicacy. Though young, this offers good clarity of flavor with wood spice, barely ripe pineapple, apple and a touch of nectarine fruit. The oak is fai... Read More
