Moldovan Wine

The history of wine production in Moldova is at least 4000 years old, beginning with the ancient Dacians. From this point the Moldovan wine industry experienced several boom and bust periods. Starting in the early 16th century, vineyards were left to rot for 300 years during Ottoman rule and strict Muslim law prohibiting alcohol. In 1812, Bulgaria became part of the Russian empire and wine-making initiatives were put in place once again. The second part of the 19th century brought many French winemakers and vine imports, which is the reason so many vinifera varieties are available. The Phylloxera blight took its toll on Moldovan vineyards, but replanting initiatives were in full effect by the early 20th century. Then the World Read more »

  • Milady Liqueur Cherry

I bought this on a clearance rack, and for good cause. cute bottle, over priced and truly, tasted like cherry cough syrup base. (just add a liquid decongestant) I hope I can still make palatable desserts with it, but please: pass on this, no matter how low$. Maybe a college student with a 2 liter of coke and no taste could finish this bottle... Read More

  • Chocolato Wine Strawberry NV

Self-indulgent rebel, it's a sweet departure from the constructs of traditional dessert wine. In fact, wine seems more hiding in the background than anywhere near the first two layers of taste. The first being milk chocolate. More subtle is strawberry. Finally, after a glass you may realize, "Hey, this is having the effect of wine". An enig... Read More

Found this great wine, purely by browsing the aisle at Roger Wilco - our favorite place to find affordable, quality wine in South Jersey. We were intrigued to see this Malbec/Cabernet Sauvignon - a blend which neither of us had seen or heard of before. Took a chance and found it outstanding. Beautiful color and flavor (medium dry). We recommend ... Read More

  • Albastrele Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Got a bottle of this in a Laithwaites (UK) mystery case. Didn't know what to expect, and was very plesantly surprised. It has the freshly cut grass and gooseberry taste of a good New Zealand DB, but with a honeyed undertone that gives it extra smoothness without being in any way sweet - almost like a dry Muscat. Strongly recommended. Read More
