Valpolicella Superiore is a status given to Valpolicella wines of a certain age produced within its Classico zone in the Veneto, Italy. The wines within Classico, which refers to both its original production area and highest quality vineyards, are subject to more extensive yield restrictions with a higher focus on quality.

Valpolicella is produced from the trifecta of Corvina, Molinara and Rondinella grapes, sometimes with very small percentages of Barbera, Negrara Trentina, Rossignola and/or Sangiovese. Valpolicella Classico Superiore must be aged 14 months prior to release.

  • Corte Armani Valpolecella Classico Superior Ripasso 2010

    Snoothrank:

88-89 points and very well done. This is not a "baby Amarone" for nothing. Good fruit raspbrerry, dark cherry with a touch of blackberry thrown in for good measure. Enough spice and pepper to give a little added snap to the acidity. The tannins are amazingly light yet aggressive enough to give a little chew to the wine. Very enjoyable drinker an... Read More

  • Ah, research never tasted as good when we were working.  Now it's more of a quest to find the perfect wine for our taste.  Good luck with that.Tonight we held another wine tasting party, this time it was hosted at our friends Sally & Bob's house in Centreville, VA.  I ran the blind tasting activities while Sally and Bob served up the food and ke... • Tedeschi San Rocco Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso 2009

    Snoothrank:

A perfect Valpolicella. Nice acidity with fairly light tannins. Went well with our pasta and meatballs and sausage. My home made pasta sauce was perfect for this wine. This wine can probably last for several more years. Read More

  • Bussola Valpolicella Ripasso 2004

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a bright ruby color in the glass, with just the faintest hint of amber along the edges. The nose is quite nice, with earthy notes of cedar, leather and fresh herbs over concentrated fruit notes of ripe plum and raisin. The taste is sublime, with a burst of sweet cherry and anise at the outset, which transitions to some espresso and... Read More

  • Bolla Corvina Blend Valpolicella Classico Superiore le Poiane 1995

    Snoothrank:

I drank a bottle of the 1995 in April 2015 and it was a tired and not very pleasant wine. After it was open for almost 3 hours it began to become more drinkable. Dont know if we should have given it 4 hours to breath but as i have another 11 to drink i guess i will be able to try. Eventually the wine became a not so great tasting plumy and raisi... Read More

  • Tezza Valpolicella Superiore Brolo del Giare 2007

    Snoothrank:

Still young and vibrant Italian corvina blend. Lots of dark fruit - black cherry wrapped in dark chocolate. Slightly edgy tannin with a decent acidic backbone. Give this puppy some air time and serve with food, went well with vegetable lasagna and garlic bread. Read More

  • Tedeschi Valpolicella Classico Superiore la Fabriseria 2010

    Snoothrank:

Stemmy and spicy on the high toned and complex nose that shows some light medicinal shadings over fine floral accent notes with a leathery fruit base. Thick and a bit powerful for Valpolicella, this is built on a hard tannic base, and they are chewy tannins, though paired with fine acids that are covered by the rich fruit. With noticeable ste...
