Soave Classico Wine

Soave Classico are wines that are produced in a specific growing area within the Soave DOC in the Veneto, Italy. Like many of the other pillars of Italian wines such as Chianti, growing regions expanded and Classico zones were delineated to refer to both a DOC’s original (classic) viticultural area, and often its highest quality wines. The zone extends between the town of Soave and Monteforte d’Alpone.

Like the rest of Soave, Classicos are produced predominately from a minimum 70% Garganega grapes, with the rest Chardonnay and/or Trebbiano di Soave (Verdicchio). Trebbiano Toscano and Pinot Bianco, which were once allowable, have now been banned from the blend due to their inferior qualities.

The Soave Classico zone also produced Recioto di Soave Classico, the sweet version. But it does not include the spumante version.

Soave Classico on Snooth

  • Tedeschi Soave Classico Capitel Monte Tenda 2010

    Snoothrank:

Deeply aromatic on the nose with waxy base notes, lots of polleny accents and hints of peppery spice, incense, and dried peach fruits. Rich and slightly waxy on entry, this shows powerfully in the mouth with fine mouthgrab and a wonderfully well knit together texture. The flavors of peach and slightly honeyed citrus fruit are bright and vivid in... Read More

  • So much good value in Italy...I feel $20-25 spent on Italian wine is on such a higher level than that of California. Why is that? Is it because the land values are such in CA that the grape prices need to be high to justify the land holding costs? Perhaps a portion of that along with the price of skilled labor, and general abundance of quality s... Read More

  • Soave Classico Superiore-Inama Nye Vine 2011

    Snoothrank:

Smokey and bright on the nose with a soft waxy edge to the rich and almost nutty yellow fruits that are tipped with just a hint of pollen. Silky and supple in the mouth but at the same time bright and tense with delicate heirloom apple and apricot flavors over a fine base of almost salty soil tones. Theres a big pop of fruit on the backend foll... Read More

  • Inama Soave Veneto Non-Certified Organic/Sustainable 2010

    Snoothrank:

The wine is medium yellow in the glass with an enticing yellow water lily scent that, if you've never encountered it, is somewhat like lemon oil. Allspice, kiwi fruit, and lemon loaf come together on the palate with noteworthy viscosity and a medium finish. Somewhat warm with mild almond bitters. 88 points. Read More
