The area in which the Lugana Doc wine is produced lies on the southern shore of Lake Garda, in the municipalities of Peschiera del Garda, Sirmione, Desenzano del Garda, Pozzolengo and, in part, Lonato. The terrain in this area originates from the glacial deposits in Garda which formed strata of compact clay of limestone and, in part, marl.

In 2009 Lugana DOC variety was the unique doc in Italy growing. Lugana area is for 1/3 in Veneto region, 2/3 is in Lombardy region.
