Trentino-Alto Adige is in the north section of Italy, bordering the Austrian and Swiss Alps. It is comprised of two autonomous provinces: Trentino lies to the south, with its capital Trento. This is the culturally Italian portion of the region. Alto Adige in the north, some call it Sudtirol, is mostly German-speaking, long considered part of Austria. Its main city is Bolzano.

The area dates back to the Bronze Age, first inhabited by the Celts, then the Etruscans. The Romans took it over in the 1st century AD. After the fall of the Roman empire, it suffered much of the same fate as other parts of the country as the target of violent invading factions such as the Visigoths. This bi-cultural blend of Italian and German began in the Middle Ages. By the end of World War II, the industrial revolution elevated the region’s infrastructure and economy. The Alto Adige became a popular tourist resort destination, bringing with it, a global appreciation of the region’s wines Read more »

  • Sauvignon DOC Premstaller 2011

    Snoothrank:

This has a great nose full of ripe fruit with a hint of herbs and very Sancerre like, though there is a bit too much SO2. Opulent in the mouth, powerful yet not fruity, this offers up a little dusty minerality and good acidity supporting brisk citrus and green fruits. The mineral finish, lacks a touch of depth, and over all this shows a very rip... Read More

  • Manincor Chardonnay Blend Vigneti Delle Dolomiti IGT Sophie 2011

    Snoothrank:

Subtle on the nose with sweet toasty nuances and spicy fennel pollen notes. This is soft, rich and silky in the mouth, offering up lots of early Asian pear and yellow almost kiwi fruit flavors than gain a pretty rusty, mineral note on the long finish. Theres an uncommon bit of grip on the finish along with lingering acidity and pure baked apple ... Read More

  • Pinot Grigio DOC Söll 2010

    Snoothrank:

Waxy on the nose and a little spicy with white pepper accenting golden apple fruit. On entry this is opulent and rich with a little viscosity obvious here. This is quite ripe but fresh with lots of weighty heirloom apple fruit and good minerality on the backend and through the rather long finish, super intense finish which shows some fine powder...
