Trentino-Alto Adige is in the north section of Italy, bordering the Austrian and Swiss Alps. It is comprised of two autonomous provinces: Trentino lies to the south, with its capital Trento. This is the culturally Italian portion of the region. Alto Adige in the north, some call it Sudtirol, is mostly German-speaking, long considered part of Austria. Its main city is Bolzano.

The area dates back to the Bronze Age, first inhabited by the Celts, then the Etruscans. The Romans took it over in the 1st century AD. After the fall of the Roman empire, it suffered much of the same fate as other parts of the country as the target of violent invading factions such as the Visigoths. This bi-cultural blend of Italian and German began in the Middle Ages. By the end of World War II, the industrial revolution elevated the region’s infrastructure and economy. The Alto Adige became a popular tourist resort destination, bringing with it, a global appreciation of the region’s wines Read more »

  • Zeni Teroldego Teroldego Rotaliano 2010

    Snoothrank:

Clear, not transparent, consistent wine with a red colour having purple nuances.Intense, though not very complex aromas: needs some time to fully develop. Mainly fruity aromas.Heavy bodied, really feeling the tannins, and persistent. Problably still needs some time to mature. Read More

  • Gewürztraminer DOC Campaner 2011

    Snoothrank:

Nice floral, fennel pollen and lightly red fruited nose with honey comb top notes. This really does have a remarkably floral and rd fruited aromatic profile. On entry this has a nice texture, a bit slick, smooth in the mouth with a very fine polyphenolic bitterness up front and then nice quince fruit with hints of melon, nice sweet almond notes ... • Sauvignon DOC Premstaller 2008

    Snoothrank:

Chalky on the nose with some old wood notes, lime fruit, light ripe herb base notes, nicely fresh on the palate, easy with long mineral and citrus pith, almost pineapple fruit on the zesty finish. This really does offer a nice combination of very ripe fruit flavors with tense minerality 90pts Read More
