Trentino-Alto Adige is in the north section of Italy, bordering the Austrian and Swiss Alps. It is comprised of two autonomous provinces: Trentino lies to the south, with its capital Trento. This is the culturally Italian portion of the region. Alto Adige in the north, some call it Sudtirol, is mostly German-speaking, long considered part of Austria. Its main city is Bolzano.
The area dates back to the Bronze Age, first inhabited by the Celts, then the Etruscans. The Romans took it over in the 1st century AD. After the fall of the Roman empire, it suffered much of the same fate as other parts of the country as the target of violent invading factions such as the Visigoths. This bi-cultural blend of Italian and German began in the Middle Ages. By the end of World War II, the industrial revolution elevated the region’s infrastructure and economy. The Alto Adige became a popular tourist resort destination, bringing with it, a global appreciation of the region’s wines Read more »

  • Zeni Teroldego 2012

Smoky and finely mineral and stemmy on the nose, this does show an impressive array of sweet spice and herbs on the nose which pop early on the palate as well. Theres gorgeous fruit here, bright, complex, and high toned, though the palate lacks the complexity of the nose. Everything wraps up in a clean, light finish. 87pts Read More

  • Foradori Fontanasanta Nosiola 2012

Mineral and spicy on the nose, this shows better precision and more freshness than the Manzoni Bianco. Entering with great power and focus, this fills the mouth with clean gorgeous expressions of white peach and crisp apple laden with mineral notes and subtle hazelnut accents. Finishing with a mouth cleansing and slightly bracing texture, this ... Read More

  • Terlano Muller-Thurgau Alto Adige 2010

The nose reminds me of Riesling but the flavor profile is a bit lighter. Lively acidity and nice subtle citrus make this a wine that would go well with seafood or chicken dishes sans heavy sauce. Overall this is an extremely enjoyable quaff. Read More

  • Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio 2012

Best of recent vintages, bright yellow straw with aromas of yellow and white stone fruits and citrus; on the palate its lemon pee' orange pith and dried melon across a bright and round mouth-feel to a lingering finish. Refresh. Read More

  • Hi everyone....I just finished uploading all our wines (and we have lots!) from Abbazia di Novacella. Have you heard of these amazing wines??? and it is full of rich history too - a monastery in Alto Adige, Italy dating back to 1142 (yes, that's 870 years of history!). I am trying to get a feeling of how Snooth works....has anyone tasted the win...
