The Italian island of Sicily is home to numerous DOCs and several IGTs. The latter denotes a wine that is made within a certain growing region on the island, but doesn’t conform to the restrictions of its relevant DOC either because of the blend of the grapes or the aging techniques employed by the producer.

The following are the IGTs for Sicily:

*Cammaro
*Colli Ericini
*Fontanarossa di Cerda
*Salemi
*Salina
*Sicilia
*Valle Belice

The wines produced under these IGT zones are produced from a variety of local and international grapes in bianco, rosso, rosato, firzzante (lightly sparkling) and liquoroso (fortified) styles.

For more information on Sicily’s wine history, varietals and DOC subregions, please see Sicily/Sicilia in the regions section.

    Snoothrank:

I haven't tried this one yet.I have tasted many of Benanti"Mt.Etna"wines w/Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio blended together. It has Burgundian elements to it.Very surprising, but very good.It must be a combination of Volcanic soil, elevation, along w/those two grapes blended together.I love wines(both red and white) from Mt.Etna...Worth expl... • A ridiculous number of trigger pullworthies in this new offering, many in their absolute drinking prime. Wish the shop was just down the street from me, rather than the ones that are. But then I'd have to live in NYC.  ;-(I love it when a guy drops 100 cases on a shop, just to 'make some space" in his cellar. Wonder what's going to be filling th... Read More

This is lovely, with enough acid to be bright and juicy but not so much as to tire the palate. there's fine fruit here, a bit subtle perhaps but nicely framed with mineral and ve... Read More

  • Cusumano Syrah Sicilia IGT 2012

    Snoothrank:

Fruity and a bit simple on the nose but with attractive blackberry, bramble, and vanilla accents gaining a late dash of cracked pepper. Ripe, lush and a bit oddly tart in the mouth, this is an easy going wine but it lacks some balance coming off as a bit raw with acid in the mouth and some dry tannins that grae on the finish. Feels both small an... Read More
