Puglia Igt Wine

The region of Puglia, located in southeast Italy, is divided into the growing regions of Foggia, Bari, Taranto, Brindisi and Lecce. It also has dozens of DOC subregions. Wines that are produced within the growing regions, but use other varietals, percentages, terroirs or aging techniques fall into the Puglia IGT category, allowing producers freedom of experimentation.
Pugla IGTs are:
*Daunia, produced in Foggia.
*Murgia , roduced in Bari.
*Puglia, produced throughout the country.
*Salento, produced in Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto
*Tarantino, produced in Taranto
*Valle d’Itria, produced in Bari, Brindisi and Taranto
IGTs are produced as rosso, bianco, rosato,  frizzante (lightly sparkling), passito (sweet) or novello (young).

  • Castello Monaci Primitivo Salento IGT Artas 2006

I had friends over the other day and tasted several Puglia wines. 2004 Notarparnaro, 2000 Patrimonio, Feline 2006, and Artas 2006. Everyone voted the Artas as the best wine. I got the Artas for a very good price from an online shop in Germany. The next day we wanted to order more and for some odd reason they were sold out! Someone must have beat... Read More

  • Tormaresca Red Blend Puglia IGT Paiara 2007

Very interesting wine at this price point. Nose is full, dark fruit, strong alcohol out of the bottle. An interesting non-typical woody/oakyness. A touch of bright cherry. In the mouth, the weight is medium with a good balance, dark fruit and a touch of chocolate. Read More

  • Feudo di San Nicola Negroamaro Puglia IGT 2004

Having left this bottle open for three days, after pulling the cork, paid off. The nose turns to green pepper, dusty cherry and a bit of plum. The palate now shows like a perfectly resolved and aged wine. The tannic structure has faded and left behind a velvety smooth and wonderfully balanced wine with red fruit, almond, pepper and a cedar finis... Read More

  • Azienda Agricola Petrelli Giovanni Salento IGT 2007

Did you ever expect to hate a wine and then find it to be surprisingly good? That's what I experienced with this bottle tonight. A deep, dark, purplish, red in the glass with aromas of blueberry jam, violet candies, nutmeg, cinnamon and a bit of vanilla on the nose. Taking a sip, I was expecting an over-extracted monster, but what I found was ba... Read More
