Puglia Igt Wine

The region of Puglia, located in southeast Italy, is divided into the growing regions of Foggia, Bari, Taranto, Brindisi and Lecce. It also has dozens of DOC subregions. Wines that are produced within the growing regions, but use other varietals, percentages, terroirs or aging techniques fall into the Puglia IGT category, allowing producers freedom of experimentation.

Pugla IGTs are:

*Daunia, produced in Foggia.
*Murgia , roduced in Bari.
*Puglia, produced throughout the country.
*Salento, produced in Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto
*Tarantino, produced in Taranto
*Valle d’Itria, produced in Bari, Brindisi and Taranto

IGTs are produced as rosso, bianco, rosato,  frizzante (lightly sparkling), passito (sweet) or novello (young).

  • Perrini Salento Negroamaro 2011

    Snoothrank:

Very perfumed on the nose with a natural ferment array of earthy, herbal, and spicy fresh leathery and heathery aromas laced with fairly grape if fresh and pure fruit. Showing great freshness and clarity on the palate, this is clear and transparent with lovely wild cherry and blackberry flavors that cover subtle spice and vaguely herbal nuance w... Read More

    Snoothrank:

I'm sorry to say I'm not a wine drinker and I don't drink wine very often, but my husband does. I will have a glass of wine when we can open a bottle of Masseria Cavalo Negroamaro 2009. I love this wine. It is so smooth. I don't know how to describe wine in a colorful and provocative manner, but it is really good!! Read More

Black pepper and other spices. Well balanced. No hint of tannin. Maybe more time breathing would have reduced the pepper. Surprisingly strong for an Italian wine. Read More

  • Masseria la Rosa del Salice Primitivo 2007

    Snoothrank:

Initial impression is prunes, raisins, slight smoke and medium to light tannins. Much of the fresh fruit is gone and there's a brown tint on the rim but there's still a bit of acidity left. Second night - this wine was definitely cooked. Read More
