Puglia Igt Wine

The region of Puglia, located in southeast Italy, is divided into the growing regions of Foggia, Bari, Taranto, Brindisi and Lecce. It also has dozens of DOC subregions. Wines that are produced within the growing regions, but use other varietals, percentages, terroirs or aging techniques fall into the Puglia IGT category, allowing producers freedom of experimentation.

Pugla IGTs are:

*Daunia, produced in Foggia.
*Murgia , roduced in Bari.
*Puglia, produced throughout the country.
*Salento, produced in Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto
*Tarantino, produced in Taranto
*Valle d’Itria, produced in Bari, Brindisi and Taranto

IGTs are produced as rosso, bianco, rosato,  frizzante (lightly sparkling), passito (sweet) or novello (young).

  • Stop drinking those Fenoccchios so young!  An early drinking Barolo vintage means maybe less than 10 years.  Buy some Langhe Nebbiolo, like Perbacco, if you can't wait.  I'll PM you to arrange to buy all your Fenocchios and Cascina delle Roses.Okay, keeping expectations low is great, but there's no reason you can't drink good wine for under $15 ... • Torre Quarto Red Blend Puglia IGT Quarto Ducale 2007

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a lighter color, somewhere between a pinot noir and a syrah. The nose is very interesting, with a tart combination of cherry, fresh cut grass and spice box over hints of leather and prune, The taste is quite nice, with some rich black fruit up front, blackberry, cherry and plum that transitions nicely to some notes of cardamom and ... • Perrini Salento Negroamaro 2011

    Snoothrank:

Very perfumed on the nose with a natural ferment array of earthy, herbal, and spicy fresh leathery and heathery aromas laced with fairly grape if fresh and pure fruit. Showing great freshness and clarity on the palate, this is clear and transparent with lovely wild cherry and blackberry flavors that cover subtle spice and vaguely herbal nuance w... Read More
