Langhe, which is the plural for the Italian word for “hills” (langa), is a subregion of Piedmont, Italy. Its location near the town of Asti gives it the geographical position to be home to some of the most prestigious of Piedmont’s wines such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Asti and Dogliani. Wines use the Langhe DOC labeling title when wine is produced from grapes of this growing region, but do not meet the labeling requirements for those previously mentioned styles. This labeling designation came about in 1994 as a way of allowing producers to be more experimental with their chosen varietals, possible blends, production styles and aging techniques.

The history of wine-making from this region is extensive, dating back many centuries. And it is rich in its variety of indigenous and international grapes. Some of the whites grown in the region are Arneis, Nascetta, Favorita, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Some have their very own sub-labels according to grapes and vineyard Read more »

Langhe on Snooth

  • Some more nice 2012's had yesterday...the Trapet was a bit more forward, ... pair with food. However, the Langhe Neb might have taken this battle, at least it was the best pair with food, versatile too, in that there was enough fruit to enjoy by itself. Good lineup that didn't cost a small fortun Read More

  • Langhe Nebbiolo. Fontanafredda 2011

    Snoothrank:

The wine has a bright ruby color in the glass with great clarity. The nose is remarkable in its young complexity with aromas of tar, licorice, dried flowers and an almost cotton candy note. The taste is quite nice, with notes of berries and plum that transition to some earthy notes of peat midpalate. The finish is quite pleasant as the young,... Read More

  • Beni di Batasiolo Langhe DOC Nebbiolo 2011

    Snoothrank:

Red fruit with flora notes on the nose. Red fruit in the mouth with bright acidity followed by distinct dryness. The second day, the wine became more balanced with the fruit taking a back seat to the acidity and the finish became very dry with medium length. Read More

  • Cavallotto Nebbiolo Langhe 2011

    Snoothrank:

Light herb stem, rose stem, and hints of mint accent the sweet fruit on the nose that has a jammy wild raspberry quality to it and hints of chocolate chip cookies,Fairly tannic on entry and bright with lots of acids, in a moderately powerful style that is very front loaded with sour cherry fruit and then tight and tannic on the backend powerful,... • Oddero Langhe Nebbiolo 2011

    Snoothrank:

Soft on the nose with sandy soil tones, a hint of watermelon rind along with a touch of va adding lift to light rosemary, and even almost peppery spice notes. Theres nice depth on the palate which shows off subtle flavors of chalk, tart red berry fruit and gentle balsamic tones. and while this is a touch tough in the mouth, it does turn fresher ...
