  • E. Pira & Figli Barolo 1964

    Snoothrank:

At firs the nose was dominated by boullion notes with hints of anise seed and drying grass. A deep, smoldering earth tone slowly emerged from the wine accompanied by a clear dried raspberry tone, dried tar notes and an underlay of exotic middle eastern spice notes and celery seed. In... • Pira Chiara Boschis Barolo Cannubi 2004

    Snoothrank:

Chiara Boschis is one of the few female winemaker at this level in the Barolo area. Her wines are of great elegance and finesse, especially from her parcel of the Cannubi Cru. The 2004 has a great concentrated bouquet on the nose with fruits, spice & oak. Rich, yet well defined with... Read more

  • Luigi Pira Barolo 2004

    Snoothrank:

This started out quite reticent with subtle menthol and balsamic notes that morphed into a wonderfully aromatic nose redolent of waxy fruits, violets and vegetal undertones. Initially this was disjointed, rich and yet cut in half by the bright acidity that highlighted the red currant... Read more

  • E. Pira & Figli Chiara Boschis Barolo Cannubi 1999

    Snoothrank:

A nose rich in sweet tobacco and maraschino cherry tempered by a touch of quinine leads to a palate with the sweet edges of toasty oak well integrated but still evident and noticeable wood tannin on the finish marring the the sweet cherry fruit. Needs time for the wood to completely... Read more

  • Luigi Pira Barolo Marenca 1996

    Snoothrank:

Intense anise and licorice flavors on the nose. Even some menthol and mint. The wine is full of more anise and chocolate, menthol, all backed with a lots acids, and tannins. Finishes on a gamey flavor - strong and intense throughout.
