Barbera Del Monferrato on Snooth

  • Question: If I am not a fan of very "Plummy" wines, what are my ... ... I am having a Villa Sparina Barbera del Monferrato to try out. It's very bright, highly acidic, soft tannis, not too plummy...there's some unripe cherry pit to it. Not fantastic but I like the woodsy, slightly dried-matchstick note to it. It's a bistro-kinda wine. Anyone h... Read More

  • A ridiculous number of trigger pullworthies in this new offering, many in their absolute drinking prime. Wish the shop was just down the street from me, rather than the ones that are. But then I'd have to live in NYC.  ;-(I love it when a guy drops 100 cases on a shop, just to 'make some space" in his cellar. Wonder what's going to be filling th... Read More

  • Sant' Evasio Barbera Barbera del Monferrato D' Asti 2009

Very nice Barbera from Asti with loads of dark fruit, earthy undertones, spices and nice firm tannins. This bottle was even better, more developed with softer edges, the second day. Great wine for the price. Read More

  • Sant' Evasio Barbera Barbera del Monferrato D' Asti 2007

This is a quaffable QPR Barbera d'Asti that has an almost candied nose which gives way to subtle dark fruit flavours and a touch of spice on the palate. There is a pleasant vanilla note on the finish, that rounds this wine out nicely. Drink now, as this Barbera is ready to be enjoyed. Cheers,TheKilsons Read More

    Wine review by Donald Myers

  • I am still toying with the shape and tone of this blog so forgive me as I feel ... hearty congratulations to Barbera del Monferrato Superiore for becoming Italy's 37th DOCG. This completes the recognition of Piedmont's workhorse grapes Dolcetto (see Dogliani) and Barbera. I will be exploring this elevation in more depth in another post but I d... Read More
