Piemonte Wine

From Asti Spumante to Barolo, the wines of Piedmont are among Italy’s most prolific and best rated. The region’s pedigree is apparent in its 58 DOC and DOCG zones, and although it is only the sixth largest producer in terms of volume, it has the highest percentage of classified wines in all of Italy. No IGT wine area is identified. Piedmont's gently sloping Langhe hills at the foot of the Alps have been rated among the best in the world for red wine production. This westerly region that borders with Switzerland and France is influenced by the Alps and Apennines (the name Piedmont means "foot of the mountain") and its seasons are very distinctive. Hot, dry summers, cold winters, and temperate springs and autumns are common with occasional fog during harvest time. There is a concentration of vineyards around Alba, by the Tanaro river, and others are located in the hills of Langhe and Monferrato in the south east. Some fine wines are produced in the North at the foot Read more »

  • Gigi Rosso Red Blend Piemonte DOC Dolcino Rosso NV

    Snoothrank:

Love this wine! My daughter introduced me to it when I visited her in Italy. A friend who belongs to a wine club researched the brand, and was told by the winery that they bottle it exclusively for AAFES. I've never found it anywhere but the Class VI, so it could be true. :( Read More

  • Massimo Rivetti Barbaresco Serraboella 2005

    Snoothrank:

This wine is a deep ruby in the glass with great clarity. The nose is very inviting, with aromas of tart cherry over some nice earthy notes of smoke, tar and cedar. The taste takes be back to Italy, with some wonderful flavors of anise intermingled with cherry and candied plum at the outset, which quickly transitions to some earthy mineral not... Read More

    Snoothrank:

Delicious! I've been trying, with little success, to find a wine or wines, that I enjoy and it's been difficult. I personally can't handle the dry burning sensation that so many of them leave when going down. This was perfect. I'll be totally honest and say I had 6 glasses. Not sure if it was the low alcohol content or what but I felt absolutely... Read More
