The Marche (or Marches) is a region in central Italy’s eastern coast, or in the middle of the back of the “boot” on the Adriatic Sea. The rivers that run through it are the Metauro, Potenza, Tronto and Nera. There are a diverse number of microclimates thanks to the rolling hills off the Adriatic Coast and the Apennines Mountains, the rivers and the lowland areas. This affords wine-makers many choices between cool and warm climate grape growing conditions.
Civilization and wine culture has been in the region since ancient times, starting with the Greeks, through the Etruscans, Romans, Byzantines and Lombards. In the 8th century, the Franks, including Charlemagne, began annexing the Marches to the papacy. This resulted in a heated land dispute between the Vatican and the ruling emperors, who attempted to retain portions of it as “fiefs,” which were controlled by various nobility. In the 10th century, the name “Marches,” which means &ldquo Read more »

  • Velenosi Lacrima di Morro d'Alba DOC Querci'Antica 2010

This wine brought to mind being at a bbq where sweet Portuguese sausage was being grilled in a freshly flowering field; the body remains on the lighter side of medium with a hint of effervescence sneaking up around the edges. I had this wine open for about four days and showed no signs of wear, in fact it got became meatier without loosing its g... Read More

  • Umani Ronchi Verdicchio Dei Castelli di Jesi Classico ! 2010

This is a really thin bodied, sharp, metallic tart wine. Very acidic. The bouquet straddles the borderline between pineapple and vomit, with a hint of jute. I prefer a more floral, green apple taste. This wine is o.k. if you decide to make white sangria and bump up the taste with some green grapes, a hint of lime, kiwis, and a hint of honey. Read More

  • Velenosi Lacrima di Morro d'Alba DOC Querci'Antica 2010

The nose showed like a basket of fresh picked flowers with pepper, minerals and a healthy dose of earthiness. On the palate, it tasted like it smelled and had a gorgeous note of rose hips in its floral profile. It was a truly enjoyable bottle of wine for those who know and enjoy Lacrima. (Velenosi was awarded the Bottle symbol by Slow Wine, repr... Read More

  • Sanrocchetto Verdicchio Dei Castelli di Jesi 2010

Clear straw color in the glass. Flowery, honeysuckle nose. Very light on the palate. Hint of citrus flavors. Very refreshing. Nice acid, but not big time. I'm going to have it with grilled chicken breast sandwiches shortly, but it might be better with a really mild fish. Actually, I thing I would love this with a bowl of fresh fruit slice... Read More

I could not find a bottle label that matched what I had online and thus resort to taking a photo of mine. I got this at a local SD wine store which did not carry much but this was in the discount bin so I got it for $7! Was a great deal and I wanted to try the grape. The best part is this is wonderful! Smells of green apple and pear. Fresh and h... Read More
