Oltrepò Pavese Wine
Oltrepo Pavese, which means “Pavia across the Po,” is a region in Lombardy, in northern Italy. Its proximity along the Po river and the city of Milan has made its wines prime products for trade, with production dating back to ancient times. It is considered the most traditional in terms of production and styles in all of Lombardy, having been ruled for centuries by the French house of Savoy.
The vineyards lie between the provinces of Alessandria, Genoa and Piacenza, with the Apennines as a backdrop. The cool climate region makes it the perfect location for growing Pinot Nero (Noir), which is produced plentifully in rosso, rosato and sparkling wines. This varietal, along with Barbera, Croatina and Uva Rara (Bonarda) are used to produce blends including Sangue di Guida (“Judas’ Blood”). I have been reading up on this wine [Sangue di Giuda, Oltrepo] that friends of mine had but could not find anywhere locally to purchase, so they asked me, since I was born and raised there. I sould not find it either, but the articles state that this is a good wine, especially considering that it is under $12 [actually $11.99], but it looks like...

I am in the Military and when I was in Germany I bought some wine and it was the best I have ever tasted. I saved the bottle for my retirement ceremony.
