Chianti Ruffina Wine

Chianti Rufina is a small subzone of Chianti in Tuscany, Italy. There are seven subzones defining the vineyard boundaries within Chianti, and the wines of Rufina show their own unique characteristics due to its microclimate and soil types. It benefits from a long growing season and elevated landscape, which makes for excellent acid balance in the grapes.
Instead of the bold and racy Classicos or Colli Senesis, Chianti Rufina tends to be more subdued, delicate, aromatic and fruit-driven, with ageworthy potential.

  • Fattoria Lavacchio Chianti Rufina Cedro 2008

Sweet, aromatic wood notes (Cedar?) on the nose with solid, fragrant, red cherry, and sweet spice. Later there's a small hint of vanilla as well. On the palate, there is a nice richness at the core of the firm black cherry skins flavor and a soft texture at first sip. Well supported with earth, leather and flint notes, this wine is both rustic a... Read More

Easy drinker that I paired with spaghetti on Christmas Eve. I had high expectations, that it didn't quite fulfill. Inviting fruity nose, with a little tang...Tasted cherry, cranberry, and a little spice. The finish was lasting with dense tannins. I'd buy it again, and drink it again, but I wanted more. Read More

  • Fattoria di Basciano Chianti Rufina 2009

95% Sangiovese 5% Colorino. Medium bodied with lots of berrv flavor. I find this wine to have a very rich flavor that has just enough dryness. Really good with bolognese sauce and pasta.. I also like it when I just want to have a glass of wine to relax. Read More

  • Selvapiana Chianti Rufina 2009

A little funky on the nose with notes of rust, dried cow stall, ash, a little tobacco and fine strawberry fruit. Softish on entry and open knit, with a fine core of clear strawberry fruit. The finish is bright and refreshed with ripe acids. Overall a tad simple but very Chianti, shows pure strawberry fruit in a rustic style. 87pts Read More

  • Selvapiana Chianti Rufina 2009

Looks are deceiving! Light-bodied in appearance, but much more weighty on the palate, with dark fruit flavors and even a little smoke on the nose. Keeps evolving in the glass. Read More
