  • Thanks for chiming in Solomon...I hadn't heard of Szekszard and have looked in to Hungary more than most. When I traveled there in '09 we tasted in Eger and all I heard about was Villany. Sounds like more Pinot Noir is grown in Villany, though maybe it should be the other way around? Read More

  • Takler Regnum Proprietor's Reserve 2003

This is a spectacular wine, with dark fruits, chocolate, and coffee flavors coming through after two or three hours in the decanter. It still has some tannins, suggesting that it will last for many more years. The alcohol is well integrated. You should definitely try this if you love Bordeaux wines. Read More

  • Marika Nemes Kadarka 2009

Similar to the Boranal Nemes Kadarka, I found this to be a fair replacement while awaiting the vineyard that makes Boranal to recover. Smooth flavor with no aftertaste.**Edit June 30, 09** I have found a few of the bottles that I currently have are slightly carbonated, which to me really ruins the flavor and in-the-mouth feel of the wine. I'm re... Read More

  • Eva's Vineyard Merlot-Kefrankos 2004

Actually quaffable for the low price. It was straightforward, with Kefrankos (Blaufrankisch in Austria) supplying much of the red cherry and spice flavors, and Merlot contributing body and softer textures. Not sure I would go out of my way for this one, as there are much better Hungarian red blends out there. Read More
