In another dig, remarkably well preserved wine vessels were found in the ancient palace of King Minos in Knossos. On the mainland, the Myceneans, who existed from 1600-1100 BC, used fine gold and silver goblets to drink wine. Homer makes several mentions of wine in the Odyssey, which has in-depth descriptions of, for instance the  importance of wine as a travel comfort. Amphorae were shaped taller, with a pointed base, to allow for easier storage, and were distributed evenly to maintain the equilibrium of the ships. The ancient amphorae vary Read more »

  • Artemis Karamolegos Assyrtiko 2013

    Snoothrank:

This smells almost sweet on the nose with lots of baked apple, lemon cream pie aromas over a base of dusty and white peppery minerality. • Santo Wines Santorini Nykteri 2013

    Snoothrank:

Candied and sweetly floral on the nose with a hint of butteriness and a touch f honeycomb along with gentle suggestions of sweet fruit and a hint of a spearmint top note. A touch of gas on the palate lends this a prickle on the tongue. Easy drinking, round and full, this remains well grounded with smoky mineral notes, a hint of saltiness, and fr... Read More

  • Gavalas Nykteri 2012

    Snoothrank:

Its well integrated adding resiny, sweet and smoky nuances to the nose but obvious and slightly more pronounced than the ripe pear and green floral notes that emerge in the glass. Lovely and bright on entry, this has a little weight and just a touch of roundness and creami... Read More
