Ate with a red pasta sauce which neither added nor subtracted from the wine. Drunk Feb 2010. Bought a couple of years ago at BevMo on a 5c special.   Good Reisling (Mosel or Rheinwein) is relatively cheap for the quality. For ... white wine. One recent Rheinhessen by Gunderloch (a very reputable Weingute) is one such wine - Fritiz's Reisling. Anyway, a start...

This inexpensive, entry-level Gunderloch is based on grapes purchased from throughout the region and the result is marvelous and easy on the wallet! Pale straw in appearance and forward pear, peach, bitter apple, ginger and orange rind greet the nostrils. Sufficient acidity to counteract the traditional residual sugar and a satisfying medium finish. Excellent value! Buy a case for backyard tippling this summer.    (hide)

  i have always had a sweet spot for risling particularly from th rheinhessen , mostly the wittman but i don't think it would go well with the escargot. i have also heard that a pinot noir would go well. any thought on that?
