Tursan is  an appellation created in 2011,although viticulture here goes back to at least the Romans, for wines from the Adour valley west of the village of Aire-sur-Adour [ located about 25 miles north of the town of Pau in south-west France close to the Spanish border] In spite of covering 41 communes, mostly in the Landes department there are only 500 hectares under vine.Red wines [ and 80% of production is red ] are based on the tannant grape along with the two cabernets while the whites are based on a local grape called baroque.Production is dominated by the Vignerons Landais co-operative.
