Madiran Wine

Madiran is an appellation in France’s southwest that is best known as the home of the dark, tannic grape Tannat. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Fer are also allowed to be used in the blend. Some of the wines are indeed quite tannic and meant for long aging, especially if they come from classic estates like Montus. Some, however, are much softer and fruitier and are meant for early drinking.

  • The design color and motif are more Burgundy-ish or CNdP-ish or perhaps Madiran or even elsewhere, not Bordeaux--as imagined by a designer who doesn't know the wine world well. 2009 vintage - I'm reviewing this after the fact, so the details are little ... fuzzy. This is a pretty good Madiran I would buy again. Nice tartness & those rich, deep berry flavors, almost a licorice-like bitterness, that makes the wines of southwestern France great. Wish I'd taken better notes at the time, but I'd buy it again, so Read More
