Gascony, or Gascogne, is a large region in southwest France that encompasses such appellations as Madiran and Jurancon, as well as the Vin de Pays des Cotes de Gascogne. The reason for the Anglicized name is that, in the Middle Ages, this area part of Aquitaine and thus under British rule.
