Cahors is an appellation in the southwest of France. The main grape variety used is Malbec, with up to 30 percent of Merlot and Tannat permitted. The region has a long history; it was once known as the “black wine” of Lot because of its inky color. After a period of decline, there has been a resurgence of interest in Cahors due to Malbec’s popularity in Argentina. Because they are comparatively unknown and often very good, these wines represent great value. Some are capable of very long aging.

  • Clos Triguedina Cahors 2000

This wine is like a favourite weeks holiday in the south of France a few years ago, but distilled in a bottle, totally off the beaten track, cheap, and "just perfect", not through arduous planning, but because all the right circumstances came together... uncork for an olfactory assault - not the most sophisticated, but far better than some of th... • Clos Triguedina Cahors 2001

  • Chateau Lagrezette Zette 2003

The "ZETTE" is Chateau Lagrezette's "cheap" wine. Sure doesn't taste like it, though! The 2003 is young still for drinking - decant this if you will be drinking now. At ~$11, this is a SCREAMING deal from France. A truly wonderful medium-bodied wine, at an "everyday drinker" price. Love it! Read More
