Also quite available in export markets but that could nonetheless be an interesting find for a wine lover. One other thing I didn't mention before - if you're going to look for something to bring a wine lover - you might want to look for some older bottles that might be hard to find in export markets. For that type of thing, I'd go to a winery, but once in a while you can find something that dates back decades and has been perfectly stored all that time.    (hide)

  Hey guys. I'm new to Snooth. My wife and I are going to visit friends in the Basque country in Spain in August for the Festival of the White Virgin in Vitoria and will visit Rioja. What are the best winery tours? The best places to eat? Other suggestions?

Fruit from Spain’s Navarra region, located near the French border, produces a vivacious straw yellow green colored Chardonnay. There’s nothing not to like about this innocuous, easy-drinking wine. As a Silver Medal winner at the Monde International Wine Competition in Belgium plus a second Silver Medal awarded at the even more competitive Challenge International du Vin in France, you will find this is the appropriate “white wine” selection for large parties. A powerful first sensation comes from the complex fruit forward bouquet of fresh apples, citrus, and pineapples, followed by a hint of a blooming hibiscus flower. The mouth is round and full. Well balanced acidity, soft, rich and refreshing on the palate. Pair this with the Paella a la Valenciana, green salads or mild cheese. 100% Chardonnay.    (hide)

It looked like it was from the late 1970s but it only had the foil and the cork cage left. There was a lot of sticky crud on the cork (uh-oh) so it could not be identified. Sadly, the wine was flat and oxidized. I kept the cork and will perform a full autopsy to determine provenance.   Cote Basque Champagne Brut 1995

  A rich and full-bodied vintage champagne with great bread notes and acidity. It has aged very nicely and was a perfect aperitif with toast and watercress dip for X-mas eve 2008.
