Savoie Wine

Vin de Savoie is an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) situation in the Alps. The wines from this region are predonimantly white. Approved grapes include: Chardonnay, Roussane, Chasselas, Jacquère, and Altesse Verdesse. There is very little red production with grapes such as Gamay, Gamay Noir, Pinot Noir. The reds produced here tend to be extremely fruity and light. It is also the former home of the Douce Noir grape, which was destroyed by Phylloxera but later reappared in California as Charbono and in Argentina as Bonarda.

  • Varichon & Clerc Blanc de Blanc NV

    Snoothrank:

Great value for a bracing aperitif, this chardonnay-based sparkling wine makes ordinary days celebratory. Crisp, dry, and slightly fruity, I enjoy this wine with crackers and cheese. Read More

  • So I'm a day late, sue me. Wednesday night a few of us got together in Napa ... than the French do in the Savoie. Much darker with more intensity. Carole said they drop fruit to promote flavors while the French let the vines over crop which is how they normally produce. The result here is a wine with more oomph. Hopefully I can try this again s... Read More

  • Louis Magnin Arbin la Rouge 2005

    Snoothrank:

Give it a few hours to open up.Bottle drunk over 2 days, so the wine was closed at the opening. It must be known to give it time to speak. It's fruity without the exuberance of Mondeuse Arbin Trosset's brothers. But it is a silky. Like to sleep in silk sheets? you'll love this wine in your mouth! No power, but which one asks for a hug.Tasting da... Read More

  • Louis Magnin Vin de Savoie Chignin Bergeron 2005

    Snoothrank:

Those who know and love the Honey Chestnut will enjoy it like me. The attack is frank, though a little soft. The mouth is the product of bees (honey, wax). The final land smoothly without heaviness.Maturity: Drink today. Wait longer would take the risk of ending up in the mouth with wine too soft. Read More

  • Domaine de l'Idylle Mondeuse Noir Vin de Savoie Arbin 2009

The nose is smoky with dark character of plums and loganberries as well as some cracked pepper. The palate is more modest with dark berries and smoky pepper with considerable tartness across the palate and finish. Read More
