Vacqueyras Wine

Vacqueyras is a village in the Southern Rhone that was the second after Gigondas to get its own appellation. The red wines must be at least 50% Grenache, with the rest comprised of Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsaut. A small amount of white and rose wine is also made. Especially as quality in the appellation has been increasing while prices have remained reasonable, it is a great place to explore for lovers of Chateauneuf du Pape.

Vacqueyras on Snooth

  • Chateau Chapelle St.-Arnoux Cotes du Rhone Millesime Vieilles Vignes Vacqueyras 2009

    Snoothrank:

A good wine but I am not the worlds largest Grenache fan. A touch hot. Fairly full bodied and rather dry although definitely has dark fruit flavors. Quality is good, no off flavors. A little anise, black berry, a bit of a mineral structure. Price is great $8.99 Read More

  • Montirius Vacqueyras Garrigues 2010

    Snoothrank:

This shows big olive, beef jerky beef jus and hoisin aromas on the nose over a base of jammy blackberry and sweet cherry fruit, accented with a hint of vanilla. Matte and extracted on entry, theres a lot of dark fruit and black pepper here in a muscular, focused style. This seems a touch closed today, though there is plenty of black fruit and m... Read More

  • Famille Perrin Vacqueyas les Christins 2010

    Snoothrank:

Inviting deep red (sanguineus) colour with spicey, meaty (ham sausage) blackberry nose. Excellent grip, with blackberry and sage notes on the palate. Syrah seems much in evidence, with more structure than (say) Rasteau or Vinsobres. Long finish with silky, grainy tannins. Could be aged for a few years, but is delicious now - especially with ... • Seigneur de Lauris Vacqueyras 2009

    Snoothrank:

Great wine. Waxy at first. After an hour, smooth, with a bouquet of graphite, earth, and fruit. Soft full mouth feel of fruit. Not a long lingering finish. Very nice wine. Read More

  • Seigneur de Lauris Vacqueyras 2009

    Snoothrank:

I guess this wine is consistent. I agreed with other reviews on this wine, then realized they were from 2000 not the 2009 that I was drinking. I had to let it sit for an hour to let the waxiness dissipate. After decanting, it has a nice balance of graphite, fruitiness and that round, earthy/loamy taste/feel.I bought this to compare it to 2009... Read More

  • Domaine du Grand Montmirail Vacqueyras 2009

    Snoothrank:

The Montmirail Vacqueyras was ripe yet so beautifully balanced that it was a pleasure to drink and probably went down "too" easy. The nose showed ripe red and black fruits with sweet spice, stone and chalky minerals. On the palate it was full-bodied yet juicy with sweet dark fruits, roasted red meats, licorice and a hint of oak. Dark fruits satu... Read More

  • Pierre Amadieu Red Rhone Blend Vacqueyras la Grangeliére 2010

    Snoothrank:

AUD$20 from Prince Wine Store, imported by Cellarhand. Med+ to intense dark ruby color. A blend of Grenache and Syrah, this opens with a restrained nose, initially crushed dry herbs, then a waft of anise before cranberry and red currant aromas. Dry, medium bodied wine with velvety texture, high acidity that isnt on the forefront. 13.5% alc. Powd... Read More
