The Controlled Appellation of Cotes du Rhone Villages was established in 1966 in the south east France. Exclusive to the Southern Rhone, Cotes du Rhone Villages wines covers 95 villages, of which 18 have the right to include their name on the label. TERROIR: The soil types are the same as in Cotes du Rhone, but the climate and soil criteria accepted, are far more strict, due to the production rules for this Appellation. As a rule, stony argilo-calcaireous soils produce full-bodied complex wines, deeply colored with a powerful bouquet. Dry stony soils produce more refined wines, renowned for elegance, finesse and fruitiness. GRAPE VARIETIES (red): Primary: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre Secondary: Carignan, Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin, Camarese or Vaccarese, Picpoul, Terret TASTING & DRINKING: The full-bodied red wines are the ideal compliment for game (venison, wild boar, hare), Provencal stew, and a myriad of stuffed vegetables dishes and truffle seasoned specialties. Côtes du Rhône Villages on Snooth

  • Gabriel Meffre Plan de Dieu Cotes du Rhone Village "Saint-mapalis" 2013

    Snoothrank:

This elegant, modestly priced wine from the Plan de Dieu region of the southern Rhone valley is perfect café fare. Scented with cherries and crushed cranberry plus a touch of garrigue (or maybe sage), it is inviting. Entry is gentle, somewhat light (thinner than 2012) and refreshingly clean. This is a real find for the student or the person on... Read More

  • Feraud-Brunel Rasteau Cru des Cotes du Rhone 2012

    Snoothrank:

Cheerful red fruit aromas open on the nose showcasing raspberry, cherry and red currant with a touch of licorice and a splash of cream. Light red fruit on the palate is tight and focussed, with a light candied quality that is pleasant and well controlled acidity filling the midpalate. Flavors of ripe raspberry, cherry and a cedar character mingl... Read More

  • Domaine Grand Nicolet Rasteau Vieilles Vignes 2010

    Snoothrank:

If you like the Southern Rhone, this wine from the denominated commune (village) of Rasteau is a delight. It bears a perfume of sweet raspberry and cherry, and the entry is a pleasure... there is that grainy, chocolate raspberry coffee flavour throughout - almost overpowering - but not too, too unsubtle. Finish is long and satisfying with tanni... Read More

  • Primus the Blend 2012

    Snoothrank:

The wine is a deep indigo in the glass, with brighter garnet along the edges. The nose is a lovely combination of smoke, ripe black fruit, rosemary and clove. The flavor is quite nice, with some sweet fruit notes of strawberry and plum up front that transition nicely to some earthy notes of toasted oak and blackberry midpalate. The tannins ar... Read More
