The Controlled Appellation of Cotes du Rhone Villages was established in 1966 in the south east France. Exclusive to the Southern Rhone, Cotes du Rhone Villages wines covers 95 villages, of which 18 have the right to include their name on the label. TERROIR: The soil types are the same as in Cotes du Rhone, but the climate and soil criteria accepted, are far more strict, due to the production rules for this Appellation. As a rule, stony argilo-calcaireous soils produce full-bodied complex wines, deeply colored with a powerful bouquet. Dry stony soils produce more refined wines, renowned for elegance, finesse and fruitiness. GRAPE VARIETIES (red): Primary: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre Secondary: Carignan, Cinsault, Counoise, Muscardin, Camarese or Vaccarese, Picpoul, Terret TASTING & DRINKING: The full-bodied red wines are the ideal compliment for game (venison, wild boar, hare), Provencal stew, and a myriad of stuffed vegetables dishes and truffle seasoned specialties. Côtes du Rhône Villages on Snooth

  • Pierre Henri Morel Signargues Cotes du Rhone Villages 2011

    Snoothrank:

Reticent on the nose with clear notes of candied strawberry and blackberry fruits wrapped in hints of leather, dried herbs, grilled meat and licorice. Smooth and moderately rich in the mouth, this really could use a bit more acidity for my palate, though many will appreciate the wines seamless character and slightly weight feel. On the palate on... • Domaine Pere Caboche Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Rose 2013

    Snoothrank:

Earthy and stemmy on the nose with hints of cherry fruit and and some tart raspberry accents. Simple and not intense. Opening with fine acids, this quickly turns a little chunky and clumsy with simple fruit that mirrors the nose, a hint of minerality, and a slightly chewy texture. fading fairly quickly on the finish, this is an easy to enjoy qua... Really nice guy in his early 40's.  After lunch we went to his winery and sampled through some of his offerings. A fantastic white Cotes du Rhone of grenache blanc, clairette and viognier was rich but with nice minerality and ve... Read More

Nice floral notes from the viognier and ripe fruit from the shiraz. Fruit forward without being jammy. Pleasing bit of acidity and soft tannins. Move over C-R. Read More

'la Daurelle', 2009 Cotes du Rhone Villages.  I am drinking as I write this posting and I do like it.  I still have some of that Ridge Lytton Springs 2011 in the fridge so I'll have to do some comparison tasting tonight to select my favorit Read More

  • Famille Perrin Cotes du Rhone Villages 2010

    Snoothrank:

Not bad, just a bit simple and rustic for a southern Rhone villages level red blend. Red cherry, somewhat biting acidity and a short to medium finish. Definitely needs some food to balance out the tartness. Read More
