Cornas Wine

Cornas is a major appellation in the northern Rhone. Only red Cornas is made. Cornas easily approaches Hermitage and Cote-Rotie in quality and finesse. It, too, has terraced, sun-roasted slopes planted to Syrah, and produces inky, powerful wines which prefer long aging. Of course, these inhumanly steep slopes are difficult to farm, so the appellation fell into decline in the early 20th century. In the 1980s, interest in these excellent wines returned, and now, it’s a source of some of the best value in the entire region.

  • Okay, I'm not bringing ANY Cali Syrah because it's duplicative of OT ... a bottle of 2007 Alain Voge Cornas Vielles Vignes.  And I'll probably bring it by ahead of time so OT can decant it ahead of time, because my expectation is that it might still be pretty rough.  I've also got an '07 Cote Rotie Cote Rozier from Bonnefond that I could kick ... • Of course, Emark.  Who can afford them?  That's the point I'm ... well known makers.  The Cornas was purchased opportunistically when the importers had sales (the Stephane Robert), thru discounters (the Alain Voge--which now sells for 2x what I paid) or from up and coming producers right before the scores hit (the Durands).  I think decent Corn...
