Cornas Wine

Cornas is a major appellation in the northern Rhone. Only red Cornas is made. Cornas easily approaches Hermitage and Cote-Rotie in quality and finesse. It, too, has terraced, sun-roasted slopes planted to Syrah, and produces inky, powerful wines which prefer long aging. Of course, these inhumanly steep slopes are difficult to farm, so the appellation fell into decline in the early 20th century. In the 1980s, interest in these excellent wines returned, and now, it’s a source of some of the best value in the entire region.

  • MY FIRST VISIT TO BERN'S STEAKHOUSE - Tampa (4/8/2017)Like any true ... choice in a Rhone was for a Cornas but they didn't have one with age that fit into my budget so the Somm picked this one. Never had this wine with age so the contrast to my previous tastes was interesting. This poured like a Pinot Noir colorwise. Light pale red, nearly tra... Read More

  • Sounds really worthwhile.  What organization put this on? I do agree ... ... and heartening that Cornas showed well, since you can still find some really good wines under $50 from there, not so much Cote Rotie or Hermitage, so I've tended to buy from there.  I like St. Joseph, but it's definitely leaner, and I don't hold it.  Crozes is so var... Snoothrank:

I bought two bottles of this wine from the website ... for £30. Cornas is an appellation created in 1938 [ although viticulture in the area goes back many centuries ] for red wines only made of 100% syrah from the area around the village of that name on the west bank of the Rhone near the town of Valence. It is one of the Rhone valley's smaller... Read More
