Cotes de Provence

Cotes de Provence is a large, somewhat generic appellation in Provence that is best known for its rosés. However, some excellent reds are also made, mostly from Syrah and Mourvedre, but also Grenache, Cinsaut, Cabernet Sauvignon, and others. The few whites tend toward the soft and aromatic, dominated as they are by Semillon, Clairette, and Ugni Blanc.

  • Domaine de l'Abbaye Clos Beylesse Rose 2009

This wonderfully seductive rose is pale, dry, rich in flowery bouquet and elegant. Clos Beylesse style by winemaker Franc Petit is the end result of painstaking production processes, and the wines qualities are best appreciated when tasted under appropriate conditions. • Domaine de la Fouquette "Rosee d'Aurore" Côtes de Provence Rosé 2009

Balanced and centered with a mature and complex taste. Well knit-together, although light-bodied its elements seem similar to a well-aged red (without the big effects). Nose of flowers, rocks, leaves, mild citrus, and mild bubblegum. Tastes similar on the palate, plus hints of strawberry and ripe hard cheese. Medium to short finish. Dry to... Read More

  • Les Vignerons du Mont Sainte-Victoire Sainte Victoire Côtes de Provence 2007

good wine, easy to drink alone or with most foods. light and simple. not tannic. had with ravioli in a butter + herb sauce. there was a bit of that sharpness in the back of the throat (for me indicating that the pairing isn't perfect), but overall it was still good. Read More
