Saumur-Champigny is an appellation within the general Saumur appellation[ although strictly speaking it is a part of the Anjou region] created in 1957 for red wines from 8 communes to the south of the town of Saumur between the Loire and its small tributary the Thouet in the Loire valley. The area has a history of viticulture going back to the Romans.Wines must be at least 85% cabernet franc ,but most are 100%,although cabernet sauvignon and a local grape called pineau d'aunis are allowed in a blend

  • Langlois-Château Crémant de Loire 1912

The Loire has many really good sparkling wines to offer - the quality ones always go under the "cremant" description. Langlois is owned by champagne house Bollinger and has the know-how and terroir to make one of the best sparkling wines I know under 20 bucks. Creamy, yeasty with ripe apple aromas. It's not champagne, but it's pretty darn lovely. Read More
