Quincy is one of the first appellations created back in 1936 when the AOC system started although viticulture in the area goes back to at least the medieval era.It is a small appellation [ only about  250 hectares under vine] for white wines only made of the sauvignon blanc grape from the two communes of Quincy and Brinay on the west bank of the upper river Cher. The soils tend to be sand and gravel over limestone.Wines tend to be cheaper and less prestigious than in nearby Sancerre.

  • Domaine Philippe Portier Quincy Cuvee des Victoires 2010

    Snoothrank:

Tight and pithy on the nose with light gooseberry, fig and yellow berry aromas against a backdrop of dried hay and chalky soil. Bright and fresh on entry, this unfurls on the palate with a lovely core of richness that is well balanced by the steely acidity. Fresh and not terribly complex, but bright on the finish with a chalky edge that drives t... Read More

  • Domaine du Tremblay Quincy 2009

    Snoothrank:

Straw bright, prominent aromas of gooseberries, citrus and minerals; richly textured notes of tart kiwi, lime and pippin apple with a kiss of honey over a glorious texture supported by great acid to a pleasingly long finish. The sauvignon blanc bomb for the price of a movie! Read More

  • Domaine Mardon Quincy Cuvée Très Vieilles Vignes 2006

    Snoothrank:

Beautiful wine. I'm not usually a fan of Sauvignon Blanc, but this was complex, bright and satisfying. Limes and lime zest, backed with asian pear, pineapple and a slight woodiness despite being unoaked(?) Long subtle finish. Opens to faint gardenia and tuberose on the nose. Read More
