Pouilly-fumé Wine

Pouilly-Fume is an appellation in the so-called Central Vineyards of the Loire Valley -- the eastern Loire. The grape variety used is Sauvignon Blanc. Here, as in Sancerre, just across the river, one finds Kimmeridgian limestone soil, but there is flint, too, which gives these Sauvignons their characteristic gunflint aroma.

  • Pouilly Fume Silice 2010

Acidic and with a pronounced minerality, this wine has aromas of green apple and a bit of citrus. Many other reviews mention salty or ocean-like notes, which I found very interesting and don't think I've experienced in a wine before. The finish shows more of the citrus flavors. This wine is exactly what I was looking for - refreshing, flavorful,... Read More
