Pays Nantais Wine

The Pays Nantais comprises the western part of the Loire Valley, mostly southeast of the city of Nantes. The wine for which this region is known is Muscadet, made from the Melon de Bourgogne grape. The best of these come from the Sevre-et-Maine, named for two of the area’s rivers.

  • Le Fils des Gras Moutons Muscadet Sevre et Maine 2015

    Snoothrank:

Binny's 6/2017. Took this to South Haven and drank the whole bottle myself. Actually it was bottle #2 on the afternoon/evening wine fest. Very good. Read More

  • Bonnet-Huteau Muscadet-Sèvre et Maine la Tarciere Sur Lies 2015

    Snoothrank:

This seaside (Nantais) wine is from a respected domaine and has a little musk and more depth than the usual Muscadet. The flavour is quite neutral, although also dense for such a wine, with some nuttiness (due to the lies, no doubt). Not particularly fresh-tasting and a bit flat, but there is white fruit such as gooseberry, a little white pepper... • Domaine de Beauregard Muscadet Sevre et Maine Laurent Gregoire 2014

    Snoothrank:

Binny's 3/2017. This vintage down a notch from the 2013, but who cares, Muscadet is just the best, or very close to it. Read More

  • Le Charmel Muscadet Sevre et Maine Loire Valley 2014

    Snoothrank:

Ever so slightly toasty on the nose with hints of almond, lemon cream and rose petal. Nicely dry palate is sharp with minerality, presenting good lemon zest notes that turn creamy towards the finish, yielding notes of biscuit, tart yogurt and more almond. Read More

  • Le Fils des Gras Moutons Muscadet Sevre et Maine 2010

    Snoothrank:

Excellent Muscadet, the back label says these grapes come from 18 acres of vines that average over 50 yrs of age in Gras Moutons. Light yellow in color, there's a bit of aroma of lemon pith which may show better if we drank it a bit less cool. Nice lemon cream, a touch of white grapefuit, a hint of white pepper, lively acidity and a medium finish. Read More

  • Domaine de la Pépière Muscadet de Sèvre et Maine Sur Li 2014

    Snoothrank:

Binny's 4/2015. You get to smell the Loire Valley soil in every bottle of Muscadet, or so it seems. Was just lovely with a chicken stir fry meal. Read More

  • Domaine de Beauregard Muscadet Sevre et Maine Laurent Gregoire 2013

    Snoothrank:

Binny's 4/2015. More, more, more. Just perfect on the first day on June 2015. The muscadet I mean, doesn't seem to matter who produces it. 10 months between bottles...300 days to long. Read More
