Anjou Wine

Anjou is a large region in the central Loire Valley around the city of Angers. Virtually every grape available in the Loire is grown here, and much inexpensive rose is made, but its best appellations are Savennieres, which produces powerful, mineral-driven, ageworthy dry white wines made from Chenin Blanc, and Coteaux du Layon, which produces sweet wines from the same variety that can improve in bottle for many decades.

Anjou on Snooth

  • The appellations of Anjou Blanc and Anjou Rouge sound a little unsexy compared with Chinon or Bourgueil but don't let this region pass you by. Some wonderful Chenin Blanc based whites and great Cabernet Franc reds as well as a whole host of rosés (Cabernet d'Anjou) are waiting to tempt you. And don't forget the hidden gems of Savennières (mine...
