Roussillon Wine

The Roussillon is a giant wine-producing region in the south of France. With the Languedoc, it produces something like a quarter of France’s total wine output. Culturally, the region is Catalan -- it is just across the Pyrenees from Spain’s Cataluña region.  Some of the best wines from this region are dessert wines. Muscat de Rivesaltes has been famous since the 14th century. Maury and Banyuls are some otehr excellent dessert wines from the region. The Roussillon also produces plenty of ripe, southerly dry red wine, with Grenache acting as the main variety, and a little white.

    Snoothrank:

Strawberry and cherry aromas with a bit of petrol on the nose. Simple palate of dark ripe cherry, strawberry, a bit of candied peach and apricot and a short and simple finish. A nice spring sipper of a wine. Read More

  • Château la Garde Red Bordeaux Blend Pessac-Léognan 2011

    Snoothrank:

From the Dourthe stable, this Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wine has good colour and an inviting nose of wet earth and blackberry. Good Claret flavours of raw coffee bean, blackberry, cassis and beet. There is some tannic puckering which suggests 2-3 more years in the cellar, but seems quaffable now. Slightly more elegant than (but similar in st... Read More

  • Exem Bordeaux 2011

    Snoothrank:

At first a bit sweet and raspberry scented on the nose with some soapy floral notes, a touch of wood spice and some mineral steely accents emerging with air. • Zenato Valpolicella Superiore 2011

    Snoothrank:

A little raw, spicy, and hard on the nose with fresh, crisp fruit. in the mouth this is a bit smoky with bright minerality supporting hints of licorice and burnt brownie. Light and clear on the palate, simple fresh and pure, with a clean fresh finish, theres a touch of fruit skin tannin here fleshing out lovely black raspberry fruit. 87pts Read More
