Roussillon Wine

The Roussillon is a giant wine-producing region in the south of France. With the Languedoc, it produces something like a quarter of France’s total wine output. Culturally, the region is Catalan -- it is just across the Pyrenees from Spain’s Cataluña region.  Some of the best wines from this region are dessert wines. Muscat de Rivesaltes has been famous since the 14th century. Maury and Banyuls are some otehr excellent dessert wines from the region. The Roussillon also produces plenty of ripe, southerly dry red wine, with Grenache acting as the main variety, and a little white.
