Roussillon Wine

The Roussillon is a giant wine-producing region in the south of France. With the Languedoc, it produces something like a quarter of France’s total wine output. Culturally, the region is Catalan -- it is just across the Pyrenees from Spain’s Cataluña region.  Some of the best wines from this region are dessert wines. Muscat de Rivesaltes has been famous since the 14th century. Maury and Banyuls are some otehr excellent dessert wines from the region. The Roussillon also produces plenty of ripe, southerly dry red wine, with Grenache acting as the main variety, and a little white.

  • Château de Cabriac Corbières 2013

Dense, semi opaque purple coloration with brown hues around the rim. Meaty aromas primarily, tons of dark berry, booze, hints of raw coffee bean and herbal/grassy notes. The "Tessellae" Old Vines offering is bigger than it's price point by 3-4 times. A superb CdR that shows red and blueberry fruits, light gamy notes, spice, pepper, floral accents. Elegant any juicy with finishing acidity and minerality, this pours really real. Drink now - Paul 91 points Read More

  • Domaine Lafage 'Centenaire' Blanc 2014

The 2014 edition of Centenaire Blanc from Domaine Lafage of Roussillon opens with a nice tisane (camomile) and gooseberry nose, but falters somewhat on entry with less balancing sweetness in the core than in the previous vintage; there are more medicinal notes (astringency) coupled with unripe gooseberry. It seems a wee bit thin and needs a doll... Read More

Another Naked Wines selection. Strange to be drinking all these young Wines recently. A dark, somewhat translucent dusty Purple Red in the Glass. For the obvious youth, surprisingly soft mouthful with light to medium Tannins ... Read More
