Roussillon Wine

The Roussillon is a giant wine-producing region in the south of France. With the Languedoc, it produces something like a quarter of France’s total wine output. Culturally, the region is Catalan -- it is just across the Pyrenees from Spain’s Cataluña region.  Some of the best wines from this region are dessert wines. Muscat de Rivesaltes has been famous since the 14th century. Maury and Banyuls are some otehr excellent dessert wines from the region. The Roussillon also produces plenty of ripe, southerly dry red wine, with Grenache acting as the main variety, and a little white.

  • Chateau la Liquiere Cistus Faugeres Blanc 2015

    Snoothrank:

The Cistus (which is named for a white, perfumed Mediterranean flower) Faugeres Blanc is a wild, spicy, perfume bomb - smelling of hot, white subtropical flowers; on the palate, there is a spicy, hot cinnamon (the Vermetino effect) finish which would diminish with some aging, but the wine is satisfying and tasty with orange peel and tropical fr... Snoothrank:

On a quality per dollar spent ratio...I don't think I've ever had a better wine. A stout, solid white wine with rich melon flavors. My first experience with Viognier and not my last, or my last with Penya, for sure. Read More
