Faugeres

Faugeres is one of the highest-quality appellations in the Languedoc. Many of the vineyards are schist and are located at quite high altitudes. The wines are perhaps not as rustic as those of other nearby appellations. Almost all of the production is red; the main varieties used are Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Carignan. The former three are required, and Carignan is on the decline. The little white wine that is made is generally Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, and Vermentino.

  • I tried the Chateau des Estanilles Grand Vinde Faugeres Rouge 2011 while in Marseillan. It was wonderful. I've found article about the vintner, but nothing about availability in the states.

  • Chateau Faugeres St Emillion Grand Cru 2005

    Snoothrank:

Decanted this wine for about 1 1/2 hours. Pours a deep dark violet color with dark red hues on the edge. Strong aromas of coffee, dark berries, cherries, chocolate and licorice. The dark berries and cherries hit the palate first and provide a rich yet light feel. In the middle, the dark berries mix with some chocolate, vanilla and coffee cre... Read More
