for this region?

Pouilly-Fuisse is the best-known white wine appellation in the Maconnais, which is in southern Burgundy. Because of the region’s more southerly climate, the wines are often quite ripe. They can be oaked or unoaked, and some are suitable for long aging, while others are easygoing wines meant to be consumed in their youth.

  • J. A. Ferret Pouilly-Fuisse Sous Vergisson 2010

    Snoothrank:

This wonderful Pouilly-Fuissé by J. A. Ferret (now owned by Jadot) has a nose of pear and apple - a bit like a Chablis with deeper flower-like notes; on the palate, there is a fair bit of mineral (clean forged steel) plus sweet licorice and green apple. Nice, elegant, long, nutty finish. There is also abundant acid for further aging. An excell... Read More

  • Georges Duboeuf Pouilly-Fuisse 2012

    Snoothrank:

A youngish, almost Chablis-like wine, this Macon is slightly more nervy, less viscous and sultry than the norm - an artifact of the vintage, perhaps. The honey, green apple and muted licorice nose with anise finish are more than acceptable. Decent value. 87 points. Read More

    Wine review by Mr Dolce

  • Yeah, Bocron, I was getting a bit pompous there, not to mention hyperbolic. In France, as is common in many European countries, wines are "defined" by their geography or region.  Burgundy is a very important wine region in France.  There are very strict rules that control what grapes can be used in the wines for any region in order for that wine ...
