Macon-Villages, often a significant step up in quality from Macon AC, encompasses 41 villages in the Maconnais, some of which actually are in Beaujolais. All of these wines are white. A wine made only in a specific village can append the name of the village instead of “Villages.”

Very surprised with the 84 vintage from this Chateau. Shows velvet tannins. Complex and fruity with a hint of mint and cherry. Classic mature Bordeaux-Pomerol finsish due to this vintage it has developed surprisingly good. 93/100 Read More

I received this wine as a gift. I had never heard of this particular wine but I was pleasantly surprised. I have never rated a wine before so please take this as a rookie rating though straight from the gut. This wine has a sunlit appearance, light taste and finishes with a hint of citrus. I think it would pair well with a light snack of sala... Read More

  • Pollier Macon Villages 2008

This wine merits the high rating because it is a great value. The nose is immediately attractively, with lots of lemon, apple, steeliness, and a hint of quince. My first impression of the mouthfeel was that it is a bit flabby. Not exactly what youd expect from a Chardonnay from the Mâcon, but then the acidity kicks in. And it is juicy and mouth... Read More

  • Antonin Rodet Mâcon-Villages 2007

Delicate and quite floral on the nose with underlying notes of mineral earth, dried yellow fruits and slightly buttery, white chocolaty oak. Vibrant acidity keeps this taut and vivid in the mouth with a bit of a creamy, lemon curd mid-palate fleshing out as it airs. Theres a nice layer of melony fruit in the mouth and excellent length for a mod... Read More

Delicate lemony nose with hints of honeysuckle. Well balanced with great flavors of tropical fruits and a nice long fruity finish. Excellent and my pick of the tasting (6 chardonnay's). Very fruity for a Macon Village. Read More

  • Les Vignerons des Grandes Vignes Mâcon-Villages 2007

Burgundy is my favourite white wine area but then its bottles like this which sometimes question that. All the aspects I love about the area I just cannot find in this wine. Firstly I don't even know if I have the producer correct or not as the label is not too clear. But the wine itself is very plain. Sharp, acidic, little flavour, it doesn't d... Read More
