Macon-Villages

Macon-Villages, often a significant step up in quality from Macon AC, encompasses 41 villages in the Maconnais, some of which actually are in Beaujolais. All of these wines are white. A wine made only in a specific village can append the name of the village instead of “Villages.”

  • Savigny les Beaune Clos des Guettes 2006

    Snoothrank:

Vanilla, oaky, ripe fruit, honey. A bit of menthol odor on the nose though imperceptible to the taste. Disturbing amount of tannin. Admittedly, I'm not a chardonnay fan, but this one disappoints, particularly considering the price point. Read More

  • Pollier Macon Villages 2008

    Snoothrank:

This wine merits the high rating because it is a great value. The nose is immediately attractively, with lots of lemon, apple, steeliness, and a hint of quince. My first impression of the mouthfeel was that it is a bit flabby. Not exactly what youd expect from a Chardonnay from the Mâcon, but then the acidity kicks in. And it is juicy and mouth... Read More

  • Labouré-Roi Mâcon-Villages St. Armand 2006

    Snoothrank:

scrumptious aromas of melon, peach, golden apples, and little on the tropic side but terrific acidity to balance the fruit components and bring citrus flavors back into the overall profile of the wine, great complexity combined with the fruit characteristics with a wonderful length. Read More

  • Antonin Rodet Mâcon-Villages 2007

    Snoothrank:

Delicate and quite floral on the nose with underlying notes of mineral earth, dried yellow fruits and slightly buttery, white chocolaty oak. Vibrant acidity keeps this taut and vivid in the mouth with a bit of a creamy, lemon curd mid-palate fleshing out as it airs. Theres a nice layer of melony fruit in the mouth and excellent length for a mod... Read More

Light but bright apple nose. It's crisp with a hint of sweetness. A refreshing wine with the tiniest edge of spice, baked apples and pears. Read More

  • Antonin Rodet Mâcon-Villages 2007

    Snoothrank:

Delicate lemony nose with hints of honeysuckle. Well balanced with great flavors of tropical fruits and a nice long fruity finish. Excellent and my pick of the tasting (6 chardonnay's). Very fruity for a Macon Village. Read More

  • Les Vignerons des Grandes Vignes Mâcon-Villages 2007

    Snoothrank:

Burgundy is my favourite white wine area but then its bottles like this which sometimes question that. All the aspects I love about the area I just cannot find in this wine. Firstly I don't even know if I have the producer correct or not as the label is not too clear. But the wine itself is very plain. Sharp, acidic, little flavour, it doesn't d... Read More
