Saint-bris on Snooth

  • I had a Saint Bris from Domaine Goiset last year and wrote up a review on this site. . I agree with you about it being very dry but I thought that the fruit was not very intense unless that is what you mean by nmineral. There art fruitier sauvignon blancs out there. Saint Bris is a little bit of a curio as it is a very small appellation Read More

  • Picked up a 2014 La Chablisienne Sauvignon Blanc Saint-Bris at my local wine store a while back. Here's my tasting note:"For around $10 this is near the top of the QPR list. Plenty of citrus flavors, lemon, just a bit of white grapefruit, green melon, decent acidity and maybe even a hint of basil on the medium length finish - 87 pts."I'll defini... Read More

  • Little known by most wine consumers, Saint Bris is an unusual wine that seems to break the rules of tradition in Bourgogne. Most Bourgogne lovers are seduced by the beauty of barrel fermented Chardonnay from the finer AOPs of Meursault, Chassagne Montrachet and Puligny Montrachet. Or the legendary Pinot Noirs of Gevrey Chambertin and Chambolle M... Read More

  • La Chablisienne Sauvignon de St.-Bris 2014

    Snoothrank:

Lemon grass is prominent in the bouquet and seems a bit more forward than the 2012. Almost Bordeaux in the slightly smoky and more dense aspects, this wine finishes with a touch of almond. A nice summer sipper with a bit of extra flair. 87 points and good value. Read More

  • I had a baked fish for supper so I started a bottle of white Burgundy. It was a Saint-Bris which is the only Burgundy AOC made from sauvignon blanc rather than chardonnay. It was OK with the usual sauvignon blanc elderflower and apple style fruit but it was a little mineral especially compared with the last sauvignon blanc I had, an Isla Negra f... Read More

  • Goisot Sauvignon St Bris Exogyra Virgula 2010

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle of wine from a shop in London's Clerkenwell [www.theperfectcellar.com ] for £12. Saint-Bris is an AOC created in 2003 for white wines made from sauvignon blanc and/or sauvignon gris from around the village of Saint- Bris-la-Vineux between Auxerre and Chablis. It is the only Burgundy AOC for sauvignon blanc although there ar... • RBA, one follow up to your questions. What you had is not a Chablis and it was not made from grapes grown in the Chablis region. It is a sauv blanc made by a winery located in Chablis from grapes grown in the Saint-Bris region (AOC). Chablis is only made from chardonnay grapes grown in the Chablis AOC. The French are very particular and have a l... Read More

  • V V - Thanks for the clarification.  Ok, Saint-Bris is a region, and the Sauvignon Blanc grapes were grown in that region.  The winery happens to be located in the Chablis region.  I should have taken more than one year of French in high school; instead I took two years of Spanish and I don't know either language very well.  It just isn't my cup...
