Morey-Saint-Denis is an appellation created in 1936 [although viticulture here goes back to at least the 10th century] for both red and white wines [though over 90% are red]  from the commune of that name on the Cotes de Nuits in Burgundy.The commune is located between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny and with only around 150 hectares under vine is one of the smaller communes on the Cotes de Nuits.There are 5 Grand Cru vineyards,including Clos Saint-Denis,the name of which was appended to that of the village of Morey in the 19th century. and also 20 Premier Cru vineyards.
